Chewing fingernails. Repeating a favorite word. Using bookmarks over dog ears. Habits. Everyone has them. Readers differ nonetheless.
Sometimes our habits bring us joys. Some are a bit deranged (Dog Ears? Really?). Yet, they add to our love of reading like a warm cup of coffee (Tea in my case).
I saw the Reading Habits tag over at Sincerely Karenjo. Feel free to tag yourself and share your reading habits, too.
Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
In my cozy bed where I can switch reading positions at will and relax.
Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I’m a bookmark fiend. Give me all the bookmarks.
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I need either a chapter break or a new chapter to stop reading. Doing so allows me to start fresh with a new informational batch.
Do you eat or drink whilst reading?
I either sip tea or water while reading. That’s it. No smudges on my pages.
Multitasking: Music or TV whilst reading?
I cannot read with music in the background (though I write without worry) as I get distracted. Oddly, I can leave the t.v. on. Weird.
One book at a time or several?
I go by my mood. Sometimes I’m a singular reader and sometimes I can strike three books at a time.
Reading at home or everywhere?
I carry a book with me everywhere for every occasion. There’s your answer.
Read out loud or silently in your head?
Silently in my head. But, I’ve been known to read dialogue passages out loud if the flow’s good.
Do you read ahead or skip pages?
I only skip pages if exposition or description bogs the story’s pace, which isn’t good.
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Break the spine? NEVER! I keep my books like new, even used ones.
Do you write in your books?
When a particular quote or passage hits me, out comes the highlighter. But, I’m not wicked about it. My books aren’t day-glowing.
As mentioned before, tag yourself and pass good tidings along. Have fun!
